OUR PHILOSOPHY
OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
We believe Christian Education, both formal and informal, is a life
long process from birth to death, a process which is both dynamic
and transcendent, from which we built our faith that grows as our
experiences and understanding changes.
To
nurture the development of our faith, West Parish Church offers a
variety of programs for all ages and interest groups. The goal of
these programs is:
- To awaken a desire to know God and to
spark a genuine curiosity about God as we encounter God in
Scripture, Tradition and Experience;
- To nurture attitude which reflects the
life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus;
- To encourage us to share God's love
through service to humanity in the spirit of healing and justice;
- To include all persons of all ages within
a faithful community of trust;
- To offer the opportunity to explore
beliefs within an accepting community;
- To relate Old and New Testament and our
Judeo-Christian heritage to our own life experiences;
- To affirm and strengthen the relationship between the home and
church through the teaching of the Christian faith.
We view Christian Education as both a personal and a communal experience
of developing and living our faith in ways that are affirming of
others. In short, we believe that all of life is education, but
when education is infused with the transforming love of God, the
reconciling spirit of Jesus, and the faithful presence of the Holy
Spirit, it becomes a vehicle to change lives and to make a hopeful
difference in the world.
